SKOAL Dipping Tobacco

Skoal dipping tobacco is arguably the most well known and popular brand of moist tobacco on the market today. For those that don't know what this is, i'll explain. People commonly confuse dipping tobacco with chewing tobacco. Although they are slightly similar, they are two separate products. Dip tobacco is finely cut grains of tobacco that kind of looks like coffee grounds. You consume it by placing a small pinch in between your lower or upper jaw and the gum of your teeth. A build up of saliva occurs which will make the consumer have to constantly be spitting into an empty cup or container. The end result of this is you get a good 15 to 30 minutes of a strong buzz which is much stronger than smoking a cigarette. What's unique about dipping tobacco, especially skoal, is the variety of flavors that are available for purchase. There are over 20 flavors to choose from such as mint, cherry, citrus, peach, and apple. The very first flavor introduced with skoal was wintergreen, and this was available in 1934. Historically, Skoal has become the most popular brand and holds a 30% marketshare.
People get into chewing and dipping tobacco for a number of reasons but the main reason is that it is a smokeless tobacco product. You can use it absolutely anywhere you want to such as inside your home, class, during sporting events, or even at work. Most of the time an experienced user can be using Skoal without anyone even knowing he or she is using the product. However, just because it is smokeless, does not at all mean it is any healthier than cigarette smoking. The long term usage results are essentially the same. Skoal, and other dipping and chewing tobaccos are merely an alternative method of using tobacco.
Skoal tobacco usually costs around $4.50 each 1.2 oz can and is taxed the same as all other tobacco products. This form of tobacco usage is steadily decreasing in the private sector but is largely increasing in popularity with police, fire, and military services. Many professional baseball players also use dipping tobacco throughout games.
In conclusion, if you like to use tobacco products, you may as well give dipping a try because it gives you a stronger, longer buzz than smoking a cigarette does, and its extremely discreet, unless you are a sloppy spitter and get your own saliva all over yourself.

  1. Dipping tobacco is seriously nasty. It has pretty much the same type of stuff in it that cigs have but instead of sucking on it them blowing it out you just let it sit in your mouth for a while meaning (rat poison, methane, etc.) My brother has used this stuff before and its not really all that discreet because its not normal for someone to be spitting every 5 seconds normally its a bottle.

  2. I agree with Bart! I think dipping is gross, and very unattractive. A couple of my guy friends like to dip, and sit with globs in their mouths, spitting every five minutes. I don't get the fun in that. Some people may think it is better than smoking cigs, but what about mouth, and throat cancer? Let's just put it this way...tobacco in general is bad for people, whether they smoke it or just put it in their mouths.

  3. Yup, I agree with the both of you. It is an unhealthy and cancerous product. Like I said though, it's just an alternative for tobacco users. Personally, I don't smoke but I have used a couple tins of dip in the past. Nothing attractive about it but I guess it's an experience all in itself. Thanks for the feedback.

  4. I have tried the citrus just to see what type of buzz you get and it is true, it is only a temporary buz but also gave me a headache! My softball/baseball friends dip too and they like it because they say it doesn't effect their lungs as much as cigs do durring practice or games. It is better for them because they do not smell like smoke, or their homes and cars do not have that odor. I would not dip at all and I'm glad I tried it because the embarassment of spitting all the time was enough to say I don't want to do this! Some of my softball friends say, (believe it or not) since they cannot dip durring games, they place the dip in between their toes and tape over it with athletic training tape. I was told the tobacco cuts the skin and gets absorbed in the blood stream. Nasty, but hey, the world is over populated with wierdos!

  5. My best friend uses this, and let me tell you, there is nothing more unattractive than brown saliva in an empty water bottle...not to mention the smell is so intense and gives you a headache.
