Join The Fight Against Cancer

Nike has joined forces with the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund to bring awareness to the fight against cancer. Some of college basketball’s leading teams, coaches and officials have partnered to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Fifteen women’s teams including North Carolina State, Rutgers, Georgia, LSU will be sporting special pink uniforms as well as special edition pink Hyperdunks to raise awareness of the campaign. Kay Yow, the women’s basketball coach of North Carolina State University, has gone on a medical leave because she has to take care of her health. Yow has breast cancer for the third time.. The pink colored sports shirt, or singlet, has “NC State” to signify Yow’s home state and team. The Nike-Kay Yow Hyperdunks has a pink Nike swoosh and Kay Yow signature logo. It is a great cause and your support will contribute to thousands of women and research needed to help the cure for cancer.

For each specially-marked product, Nike will donate a minimum of $2 to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund to support breast cancer awareness and research. These Nike shoes are 39.99 and the Nike/ Kay Yow athletic gear is available on-line at

www.nikestore.com.

  1. I think it is great to raise money for the fight against breast cancer and I applaud any company or person that does this but I can't help but think isn't Nike being a little hypocritical when they say they care about women and cancer when they outsource their manufacturing to third world countries in order to pay far less to their workers who are primarily women. Or is it that they care about American and European women but not Asian or Indian women who are working in sweat shops for a couple of dollars a day to try to feed their family while Nike rakes in the profits?? Nike in fact closed certain factories in Asia because women working in deplorable conditions for almost no money demanded better pay and better conditions. Nike then moved to India where they could once again get cheap labor at the expense of women while they rake in more profits each year especially when they put out huge campaigns for worthy causes. I am happy breast cancer research is getting more money from Nike but it seems to me this is just one way Nike is trying to boost it's name and reputation in order to get more profits.
